I initiated a sync and let the computer do its thing overnight (it would be downloading 38 gigs). The next day I could see only a partial listing of my files.

When I moused-over on the Google Drive icon in the Menu Bar, all I got was the spinning colored wheel ('Beach Ball Of Death') for about 12 minutes until Google Drive crashed. I shut everything down and restarted the computer. When the OS was back and running, again I moused-over the Drive icon. It gave me the 'Scanning web' message. O.k., all is good, I thought. My Windows machine does the same thing.

However, even after an hour that's all I would get until, once again, a crash. The 'Beach Ball Of Death'. I did a re-start again and everything repeated itself. When I opened the folder what I saw was that some files and folders synced, but randomly. There was no rhyme or reason to what synced (i.e., a folder that had 13 folders within it did not sync, but 3 of the folders that were within it did.) I have had no problems with Google Drive on my Windows machines but I need it to also work on my Mac. I hate to say it but moving to Dropbox is probably the only solution.

Last night the Drive Mac client said 'Sync complete' - this was a total lie. Today my daughter (and myself via my Android phone) could see only a few of the 1000 pix I had dropped. On the browser via Drive, I could see the files in a list, but the file was not present, and the thumbnail was unavailable. In fact, the UI lied about status - it had synced the file structure, but not the files. After opening my Mac to wake it up, I can see the pix slowly trickling into the cloud. There is absolutely no indication that Drive is still syncing - other than the fact that the files are not there. It still says 'sync complete'.
