The consensus seems to be that you cannot install FCP 7 on El Capitan, even though a previously installed version of FCP7 should keep working if you update Mac OS X to 10.11 (I can testify that it does on my old MBP).

So I was kinda disappointed. Here is the thing, I just installed FCP 7 from a Final Cut Studio 3 disk image archive. And it works. I only installed FCP 7, so no Motion, Compressor, Color, etc. I also had to move FCP X away from the main Application folder, otherwise Final Cut Pro 7 was grayed out in the installer. I just opened an old project and everything seems in order.

EDIT: My FCS Installer installed FCP 7.0. Pro Apps Update needs FCP to be in the Applications Folder for it to be updated to FCP 7.0.3. If FCP is in a subfolder, it will not get updated.
